The development of machining technology is very rapid, one of the technology on lathe which is now using CNC technology (computer numerical control), and the use of easy insert is also advantageous for the operator, besides the use of cooler that is not environmentally friendly force us to seek Another alternative that is more environmentally friendly, so research this time using air conditioning. The purpose of this research is to know how spindle rotation (rpm), feeding speed on the surface roughness level of conventional lathe and how the height of chisel effect on the surface roughness level of conventional lathe. Testing using a conventional lathe with carbide insert carbide tool of Mitsubishi CCMT09T304. Cooling will be directed between and workpiece, machining process used is turning process with bridge material c51000, research method by using taguchi method, from result of research concluded that optimal machining condition to yield the finest surface roughness at height of the cutting tool 0 mm, spindle rotation of 1255 rpm and feeding 0.10 m / min, optimal machining conditions to produce the lowest temperature at height 0 mm, 1255 rpm spindle speed and 0.10 m / min feeding. Machining conditions requiring the least machining power at chisel height of -0.2 mm, 755rpm spindle speed and 0.10 m / min feeding. While machining conditions that produce the lowest vibration pemakaninan at the height of chisel 0 mm spindle round 755 rpm and feeding 0.160 m / min.Keywords : Turning Process, Machining Parameters, Surface Roughness.
